and that's what its all about!

So a lot of you have been asking me questions about photography....so I thought that I would give it a shot. (Please remember that I really don't know what am a talking about, I just pretend to know!)
To start off, you can get great results from a P&S (point and shoot) camera by using manual mode. You may not be able to do everything with your P&S as you could with a DSLR but you can still get great looking pictures. (you can learn a lot from your manual!)

Aperture is one of my favorite things to play with on my camera. It can make your picture tell a story, give it depth and make you fall in love with your children again...did I say again?

Aperture is a little hole in your lens that lets in light. This hole can be made small or big, just by pushing buttons or turning a dial.

Aperture is measured in
F-stops. Now this is where it can get really confusing, so listen up! The smaller your F-stop (F/2.8) the larger hole. The larger the F-stop (F/11) the smaller the hole.

Aperture also controls "Depth of field" this is the area of sharpness (from near to far) within a photograph. Some photographs contain a great deal of sharpness while others focus on a single subject and wash the rest out.

Wake up!

Are you still with me??

1.Tell a story
You can give you picture a nice, clean sharp look with a large f-stop such as: f/9 or f/11

2. Close up!
You can focus just on one subject, for example - those cute little dimples your babies face, or their tiny toes, you get the point! To do this you need a small f-stop, such as f/2.8 or f/5.6

I learned all that I know from my manual, Ralphie, and the Internet.

a little side note: I edited both of these pictures of Hannah on Picasa. It is this great program that can organize your pictures and edit your photos. If you are looking to not spend very much money, this is a great option because it's FREE! Here is the link to download it!

Why I love my family reason #458

.... they let me steal their children and start taking pictures of them before they can sit down

Pretty soon I will ask if I can take them home with me....

That is when they will say "No way!" And run away screaming....

And then they will forgive me and look over my teenage crush on Tim McGraw!

My point.....hum.....don't bring your kids near me unless you want a million pictures taken of them, and you don't mind my singing at the top of my lungs when Tim McGraw is on!

My Grandpa's wedding

I just love my family! It is always nice to get together and what a great excuse to do so! My kids are not looking there best.....but I thought that I looked pretty good! :) Kurtis was on call and could not make it. I thought about trying to put him in the picture and then thought....I may be good, but not that good!
P.S. My family is a little crazy when it comes to
photography so I was the one to get the last shot or just plan shoved out of the way. I did not get too many of the bride and groom. There were like a million other people there clicking away!!

My Grandpa

For some reason, I just LOVE this picture! Hannah looked so cute trying to get up all those stairs!

Did someone say UNO?

Caleb did not win this game......does he remind you of someone?!

UNO!!

Caleb got Uno from Santa this year and we have played it EVERYDAY since! My kids just LOVE this game! Caleb has a little bit of a hard time when he loses, but we are working on that! Hannah can identify most of the numbers(which is awesome!) and wins most of the time!

There has been some new and exciting things happening in both the Reed and the Hall family. My dear Father -in- Law has found a wonderful woman to spend the rest of his earthly life with. We are so excited to have her join our family and are also excited to meet her kids! They are getting married on February 7th 2009.
My Grandpa lost his wife (my grandma) about a year ago and has also found a wonderful woman to marry. We feel very happy for him. Our family can't wait to get to know her better. We love you both! They are getting married this Saturday in the Salt Lake Temple.
We feel very blessed to have these wonderful new woman join our family and wish them the best. We also feel blessed that we are able to be close to home so that we can join in the celebrations of there marriages. We look forward to seeing all of you!

Kurtis is turning the BIG 29 today!! I thought that it would be fun to look at all the pictures that we have of Kurtis, turns out....we don't have many, but I did find some good ones!!

Kurtis has always loved basketball

Kurtis went on his mission to Sydney, Australia- Vietnamese speaking.
He LOVES to fish!! He took a trip to Alaska to do some deep sea fishing and had a blast! (I could not find any of those pictures.... so I thought that this would do!!) Kurtis and Derek (brother)

He has had a love for snowmobiling since he was little. He still gets goosebumps when he sees, rides, or talks about snowmobiling!!

Kurtis went to Vietnam last March with a team of surgeons and other doctors to fix clef pallets and many other problems. He was a great interpreter and doctor!

We were married on May 9th 2002 in the Bountiful, UT Temple. (Which I am sure that it was the HAPPIEST day of his life!!)

Kurtis is a great dad!
He has so much fun playing sports, wrestling, and playing Legos with Caleb.

Hannah is a daddy's girl and Kurtis loves every snuggle, hug and kiss that Hannah gives him!

Temple Square

I love this picture! The reflection was so beautiful with the lights.

A few nights ago we went to Temple Square with my family to see all the lights. Everything was just beautiful. I am always amazed at the intricate detail of the Salt Lake Temple. It is amazing that the saints built such an breath taking building. I am very thankful for the sacrifices that they made to built it. I felt the spirit while taking these beautiful pictures of the temple. I hope that you enjoy looking at them as much as I did taking them!
